reposted
it,
and
one
government
official
shared
it
“ironically.”
That’s
a
bingo.
From
a
monetization
standpoint,
these
guides
inspire
merch
(postcards,
shirts,
travel
stamps),
interactive
maps,
and
downloadable
PDF
itineraries.
Our
“Welcome
to
Absurdistan”
tourism
bundle
included
a
fake
visa
application
and
a
banned
words
list
(“authentic,”
“hidden
gem,”
“vibe”).
It
sold
out
in
three
days
—
mostly
to
anthropology
majors
and
bored
flight
attendants.
Writers
use
the
“Lie
Like
a
Local”
method:
choose
a
real
location
or
invented
one,
build
fake
landmarks,
bend
stereotypes,
and
sprinkle
with
logistical
nightmares.
Because
in
satire,
