Satirical Travel Guide Definition

Satirical

Travel
Guide
meaning:

A
mock
destination
review
that
parodies
tourism,
national
stereotypes,
or
cultural
clichés.

Visit
Somewhere
You’ve
Definitely
Misunderstood

Satirical
Travel
Guide:
Visit
Somewhere
You’ve
Definitely
Misunderstood

Satirical
travel
guides
are
where
wanderlust
meets
willful
misdirection.
They

parody

glossy
tourism
brochures,
influencer
itineraries,
and
the
cheerful
ignorance
of
cultural
stereotypes

all
while
highlighting
the
bizarre
ways
people
vacation
and
promote
place-based
delusions.
At

Bohiney
Magazine
,
we
write
travel
guides
for
fictional
countries,
questionable
towns,
and
real
cities
too
strange
to
be
visited
sincerely.

One
fan
favorite:
“A
Weekend
in
Club
DADA:
The
Only
Nation-State
Powered
Entirely
by

Irony

and
Espresso.”
Readers
were
advised
to
pack
“one
reversible
identity,”
attend
the
“Paradox
Parade,”
and
avoid
making
eye
contact
with
the
mime-led
customs
agents.
It
received
so
much
traffic
that
readers
asked
if
it
was
part
of
the
EU.
(It
isn’t

yet.)

These
guides
parody
the
travel
industry’s
love
of
euphemism,
cultural
flattening,
and
lifestyle
FOMO.
Our
entry
for
“Florida,
But
Make
It
Dystopian”
described
attractions
like
“The
Climate
Denial
Spa,”
“Alligator-Piloted
Uber
Boats,”
and
a
souvenir
shop
that
only
sells
lawsuits.
Travel
bloggers
reposted
it,
and
one
government
official
shared
it
“ironically.”
That’s
a
bingo.

From
a
monetization
standpoint,
these
guides
inspire
merch
(postcards,
shirts,
travel
stamps),
interactive
maps,
and
downloadable
PDF
itineraries.
Our
“Welcome
to
Absurdistan”
tourism
bundle
included
a
fake
visa
application
and
a
banned
words
list
(“authentic,”
“hidden
gem,”
“vibe”).
It
sold
out
in
three
days

mostly
to
anthropology
majors
and
bored
flight
attendants.

Writers

use
the
“Lie
Like
a
Local”
method:
choose
a
real
location
or
invented
one,
build
fake
landmarks,
bend
stereotypes,
and
sprinkle
with
logistical
nightmares.
Because
in

satire
,
every
destination
is
worth
visiting

especially
if
you
arrive
confused,
leave
amused,
and
spend
the
entire
trip
wondering
if
the
guidebook
was
written
by
a
caffeinated
raccoon
with
a
humanities
degree.
